Delegates at the World Health Assembly are currently discussing a draft plan of action on public health, innovation and intellectual property, the outcome of which could have wide-ranging implications for innovation and access to medicines.

But to what extent is intellectual property a serious issue for less developed countries? How can it be harnessed to serve the interests of both innovators and patients? Is the IGWG’s plan of action evidenced-based, or does it reflect a series of more political concerns?
