Benin
Benin, in common with many of its regional neighbours, has a high prevalence of non-communicable disease, and access to clean water and adequate sanitation remain problems. However, some success has been achieved in controlling epidemic diseases such as sleeping sickness, yaws and meningitis.
The government of Benin has set goals of expanding its health care system, upgrading the quality of first referral care, promoting private sector care, and improving public sector care.
Tariffs levied on medicine have been reduced since then to 0%, a 'solidarity levy' of 1% is charged on all medicines.
