Burkina Faso

Burkina Faso is ranked 177th (of 182) on the UN's Human Development Index and has one of the lowest GDP per capita in the world. Unsurprisingly, health provision is inadequate for a country that suffers a high burden of infectious disease. There are only 6 doctors per 100,000 people, and primary care is substandard. Female genital mutilation remains a severe health problem.
