Congo Dem. Rep.

The Democratic Republic of Congo's health system suffers from a chronic lack of under investment. The government provides about 35% of total health expenditure, with the rest met largely via out of pocket payments. Rates of infectious disease are high, and access to clean water, sanitation and nutritious food is poor. As a result, the average child in the Congo has a 20% chance of dying before the age of five.
