Egypt

The Egyptian economy is one of the most advanced in the Middle East but, despite this, its health care is relatively poor quality. Egypt's health care is provided primarily through the state although there is a growing private sector. Although politicians have committed to providing universal health care, it is underfunded and poorly managed. In a bid to bring the price of medicine down domestically, Egypt has cut its import tariffs in recent years by half. Most classes of imported drugs attract a tariff of 5%. Local production constitutes a major part of the local market.
