Iceland has gone from one of the poorest countries in Europe to one of the wealthiest in under a century. It is also one of the healthiest: infant mortality is the lowest in the world and life expectancy is 11th in the world.
The government covers the costs of much of the medicine demanded by consumers so it is perverse that a tariff of 4% is levied on imports of pharmaceuticals.
