Mali

Mali is one of the poorest nations in the world, with some of the worst development and health indicators: it is fourth from bottom of the UN's Human Development Index. Health problems arise from lack of food and low levels of access to clean drinking water (less than half of those living in rural areas have access). Health care provision is predictably poor as well, with hospitals concentrated around the capital, very few doctors and extremely limited access to medicine. Although the government levies no tariffs on medicines, the customs bureaucracy is slow and cumbersome, thereby delaying access.
