Mauritius

Mauritius has moved from a low-income agrarian economy to a middle-income industrialized nation in just over 40 years, through a series of free-market reforms and relative political stability. The health care system is provided by the public sector. However, it is relatively inefficient: in a WHO report on the overall efficiency of health systems, the Mauritian Health System ranks 84th out of 191. There is pressure amongst the middle classes for reform of the system to allow more pluralism.
