The Caribbean islands of Trinidad and Tobago have in recent years improved domestic sanitation and living conditions so that infectious disease are now less of a problem than in the past. However, rates of diabetes and hypertension are increasing.
The vast majority of drugs are imported, with tariffs ranging from 0 to 15%.
